The company was founded in 2009 by lifelong friends Gavin Gear and Brett Edmonds who met when they were 8 years old in Otara, New Zealand. Although they differ in their passions at play, Gavin enjoys racing cars in his off time, while Brett prefers being out to sea fishing on his boat, they share a professional calling in helping people live healthier lives.
Gavin was driven, no pun intended, to develop a treatment for his ongoing issue that began as heartburn but became an acid reflux problem. When conventional medicine in the form of proton pump inhibitors failed him, Brett suggested Manuka honey might be a solution. This was the beginning of the ManukaGuard journey and the many hours of research and development that went into our product line.
In 2012, at just 3 years old, Gavin’s granddaughter Kora was constantly sick and suffering from chronic food allergies which impacted her daily life. The ongoing illness and food allergies left her depleted, and as her condition worsened, a breathing machine was installed in her home and she was missing school and play time with her friends. In addition to the physical issues Kora was experiencing, the medical bills were piling up for her parents.
Gavin suggested Kora’s Mom and Dad have her try ManukaGuard’s nasal spray to clean Kora’s sinuses and nasal passages. Within days there was a drastic improvement and in the coming weeks Kora’s health radically improved as her immune system recovered from the constant stress and regained strength. In addition to the nasal spray, Kora was also eating Medical Grade Manuka Honey for immune support. The results were outstanding, with the help of a natural remedy Kora’s health was restored. The breathing device was returned to the hospital and the financial burden on her parents slowed.
Today at the age of 10, she is a vibrant, healthy child who is happy and flourishing. She loves school and never has sick days. Kora´s strong immune system is now protecting her from allergies and the seasonal bugs that previously led to two hospital stays. To this day, she still consumes and loves her honey, and her Grandpa for helping her regain good health!
